Competition Rule Prompt

Some prompts about entering images for point scoring competitions.

For this season being, we will stick to the 3 images per author as put in place last year. Arrangements to collect fees will be put in place at a later date.

Please note that if your image is to be presented in portrait format/upright, your maximum height is 1200 pixels, not 1600. The maximum width is 1600 pixels.

Please read the theme notes:– they are on the website and are there to guide you. These will indicate what we are expecting as entries. For example – If the notes for a specific competition indicate only minor post processing, that is what it means for everyone who enters. This may be to showcase your skill in setting up and executing the shot, rather than your post processing skills. The judge will be asked to consider the guidelines when they judge the images, so you may be wasting your efforts if your entry does not comply with the given guidelines.

There should be nothing on the image to identify the author – so please do not add a watermark, nor should the title be added to the actual image area.  Your name should appear in the filename – see below.

The author should hold the copyright to all elements of any image entered – no backgrounds or add-ins from the internet, however, if you make these yourself, you may add them if the competition guidelines allow for it. Images may only be entered once in any form in any point-scoring competition.

Key-line– If there are a lot of dark tones or very light tones around the outer area of your image, it can help to separate your image from the projecting canvas if you add a key-line around your image.

Image size should not exceed 1600 pixels wide and 1200 pixels high.  100ppi is plenty Colour space should be sRGB and images should be saved in jpg format.

The file name should be changed to the title of the image and your name separated by a # so:- Image Title # Firstname Lastname for example:- Winning Image # Jo Humberstone this is very important as it helps me to track your images Entry form – So long as the filename includes your name, see below, we can dispense with entry forms for the time being

If you have any problems with sizing images, naming the files or even adding a key-line, please ask for assistance prior to the entry deadline, and I can set up a 1 to 1 Zoom meeting to guide you through the process.

Jo Humberstone

I've always had an interest in photography, starting too many years ago than I care to remember. I have a variety of cameras in working order ~ pinhole, medium format, 35mm and digital. With working full time, there never seems to be enough free time to properly indulge in using them. 10 years or so ago, I took my first (and only!) "A" level ~ in photography. I was the only one on the course to only do darkroom work throughout. My own preferences lie with film and alternative processes ~ Digital is fine for most things, but for me it hasn't got as much "soul"! I enjoy sloshing around with various chemicals and I enjoy the unpredictability of some of the results. Having said that, I am happy to rise to the challenge of digital work and manipulating images for competitions and suchlike when time permits.
